Legislative District 40
Patrick J. Joyce is a Democratic member of the Illinois Senate from the 40th Legislative District since appointed in November 8, 2019. The 40th district, includes the southern precincts: 16-20 and parts of 10-14 of New Lenox Township.
As State Senator, he fights for all working families to have equal opportunities and is determined to restore commonsense values and priorities.
- Joyce voted to reduce property taxes and suspend the gas & grocery taxes.
- Capped the out-of-pocket cost of insulin
- Invested millions in law enforcement & violence prevention programs
- Fought to protect more than 1,500 jobs at the Dresen & Braidwood Nuclear Plants
- Supported a new school funding formula to put more money directly into our classrooms
Joyce was raised in Reddick, Illinois, graduated from Illinois State University with a B.A. in Agribusiness. He is a fourth generation farmer and for 25 years has owned and operated his family farm. For 19 years he has been a member of the Kankakee County Farm Bureau Board of Directors.[4]
Joyce is married and has three children. He currently lives in Essex, Illinois. He lost his daughter, Katelyn, to leukemia in 2011. Since her passing, Joyce has “led a team of friends and family members to raise money at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night fundraiser in Katelyn’s memory.”
